Top Week For Toreador

Toreador had a top week involving the KZN Yearling Sale and Vodacom Durban July day.

At the Sibaya KZN Yearling Sale, Toreador proved his popularity by selling 11 yearlings for close to an average of R100 000 each in an economically challenging market.

His top seller of the sale came from Bush Hill Stud, a big imposing filly (and a late foal) out of a Kahal mare Sheer Brilliance - the dam of 5-time winner Gemini Gold, by Overlord. A clever mating with Toreador and Overlord both sharing the great sire Danehill, the filly was snapped up by Garth Puller for R280 000.

His top colt was an outstanding sprinter-like individual from Piemonte Stud, out of speedy Var mare Wishful Eye. The colt sold for R230 000 to Toyco Engineering.

Toreador's success continued on July day with a winner and two places. He provided one of a 1-2 across the line for the Scott Bros, with their handsome Desert Fighter getting to win third time out for trainer Dennis Drier.

Anton Procter's speedy grey colt named Misty Birnam (pictured with Callan Murray on Saturday), trained and owned in partnership with Mike De Kock, ran in the Gr2 Golden Horseshoe to finish second, just a length off Zodiac Ruler. In only four starts, the speedy colt out of a Verglas mare has won twice and placed second, twice.

Three year old gelding Al Azraq third behind Redcarpet Captain in the Tabgold Sprint (non black type), just a length off the winner. He has previously won twice and placed four times.

In under two weeks, Toreador has had five wins including today at Fairview, and eight places. His current winners to runners percentage on is 39.7%.

Toreador will stand for R20 000 this coming season.
