KZN’s leading sire Kahal topped the sires list by aggregate at the Emperors Palace Ready To Run Sale, where he was well represented by siblings to the likes of Gr 1 winning Noble Heir, Pierre Jourdan, Hear The Drums, Festival Of Fire, Paris Perfect and Rebel King - to name but a few.

His 28 lots to sell amassed R5 810 000, at an average price of R207 500. Kahal again got yet another Group winner - Sarasota taking home the Gr 3 Starling Stakes on Saturday at Turffontein. Less than two weeks earlier, a chestnut daughter of Kahal named Classic Illusion also took home the Gr 3 Yellowwood Handicap over 1800m.

Kahal's top sellers at the sale both sold for R500 000 - each well related fillies. The first was Lot 124 Close Relative, a full-sister to Rebel Queen and Uncle Tommy, and half-sister to sire Rebel King.

A very good-looking chestnut filly, she sold to Geoff Woodruff. The next was Lot 223, named Kosova, a half-sister to Icy Air and Ice Axe - sold to L Kelp for R500 000. Kahal's top-selling colt of the sale was Lot 72 Dakiwe, a half-brother to Pierre Jourdan who reached R425 000, sold to Hong Kong investors - Robert Chung.

Sarasota, owned by Messrs Bryn Ressell & Lucky Houdalakis and trained by Lucky, looks to be another smart filly after winning two of her three outings, and placing on debut. Her second start saw her win by an impressive margin of almost seven lengths over 1200m. The Gr 3 Starling Stakes over 1400m on Saturday saw her win under Glen Hatt by a quarter of a length after she flew up from behind from an impressive field, including Gr 2 winner Virgo's Babe and Athina.

Five year old mare Classic Illusion took home the Gr 3 Yellowwood Handicap over 1800m from Cyclone Michelle and the talented filly Formation, winning by almost one and half lengths under top jockey S'Manga Khumalo, carrying the top weight of the field - 60kgs, and giving Cyclone Michelle an 8kg beating in slightly soft going.

Congratulations to all the winning connections.
