Malkia, by Bezrin out of Juste Melieu by Mr Justice, won the second race at Clairwood this afternoon by four lengths over 1200m. Trained by Garth Puller she was ridden by Collen Thabana, carrying top weight of 60kgs.
The five year old mare is partly owned by Warwick and Karin Render of Bush Hill Stud as part of Moodley's Racing Team CC (Nom: Mr G Moodley) and Messrs GB Puller and GR Puller.
This is Malkia's first win, and she has placed eight times previously. Her dam Juste Melieu is out of Airworthy by Over The Air, and she has produced three winners with Green Sunshine (by Linney Head and the dam of two winners herself), Air Speed by Shoe Danzig and Air Command by National Emblem.
This dam-line includes Gr 3 East Coast Derby winner Robert The Bruce, Gr 2 Merchants Stakes winner Delta Force, Gr 3 winner Dunbarton and under the third dam, a few prolific overseas sires in Gr 1 winner Kaapstad(NZ) and multiple Gr 1 winner and champion sire Octagonal(NZ), as well as Palm Beach(GB) amongst the many Bold Black Types to be found in this pedigree.
