KZN Breeders Awards Dinner

Bush Hill Stud and it's clients enjoyed a very successful evening at the annual KZN Breeders Awards dinner held at Bellwood on a misty Saturday evening. An event where typically the breeders come together to celebrate and appreciate the achievements of the year for KZN Bred horses and their performances all round the country, and indeed the world.

It was great to see that there was a wonderful spread of breeders winning awards on the night too, proving yet again that the breeder base in KZN is broader than people tend to think.

The Mouseketeer took the title of Outstanding Male Sprinter courtesy of his Gr3 win in the August stakes followed by his win of the richest race on sand the Emerald Cup Gr 2. These accolades also made him a finalist in the Outstanding Older Male category where he was pipped by another of Kahal's sons Smanjemanje.

Seal born and raised at Bush Hill for long standing friend and client Dr Ian Heyns was another of the beaten finalists in the Older Male Category. He was not to be denied though in the category of Outstanding Male Stayer. It was a privilege to have his trainer, Gavin van Zyl and his wife Shannon join us for the evening and to share in the success of his charge.

Shadwell Stud's Kahal proved again what a major contribution he has made to breeding in KZN and to the racing industry in South Africa with him having no fewer than seven of his progeny as finalists on the night.

His offspring ended up taking four titles in the end these being Outstanding Female Sprinter - Mannequin (he sired all three of the finalists in this category), Outstanding Male Sprinter - The Mouseketeer, Outstanding Middle Distance Male - Smanjemanje and Outstanding Older Male - Smanjemanje.

Considering these achievements and the fact that he ended the season in question in third place on the National Sires log it was no surprise that he was crowned KZN Stallion Of The Year for the fourth time.

We would like to record our thanks to all those who made the evening the success it was, but even more importantly to those who support us at all levels making achievements like these possible for the stud.
