Bush Hill-bred Newton Power ran second by just half a length at Borrowdale Park to Approval Rating in the Zimbabwean Guineas Grade 3, the first leg of the Zimbabwean Triple Crown.

The talented and good-looking bay son of Newton out of Slew The Red mare, Red Spirit, has now won three races and placed twice from just five starts. He also placed third in February in the Ipi Tombe Stakes Listed, again at Borrowdale Park. Trained by Gokhan Terzi, he was ridden by Juan Paul V'D Merwe.

Congratulations to his owners Messrs G P & K M Mansour, J M Eaton, G M Littleford, S H Murray & V C Veeramootoo & Mr & Mrs P C Rugg.

Earlier in February Seal, born and raised at Bush Hill Stud on behalf of breeder Dr Ian Heyns, won the Pinnacle Stakes for all horses over 2200m from S'il Vous Plait and Go Gold. The field also included Salutation and Galanthus.

Another son of Shadwell-sire Kahal, Emperor Augustus, ran third in the Wolf Power 1600 Listed Handicap, just over a length behind the winner, with Emperor Augustus carrying 3.5kg more. Muhtafal continues his success, and had a second place with Showmetheway in the Gr 3 Tommy Hotspur Handicap from Sharp Design, at Turffontein over 1000m.

Bush Hill Stud have two colts and a filly (two as agent) available at the National Yearling Sales by Kahal, and also include a three-quarter brother to Gr 2 winner The Mouseketeer and a full-sister to Reign As Kings.

Well done to all the connections concerned.
