Distinguished adds another for Kahal. Image: Gold Circle

Kahal had two successes on Gold Cup Day as well as Muhtafal - both stallions owned by Shadwell. The first is a placing with Checcetti in the Gr 2 Gold Bracelet, followed by Distinguished in the Darley Arabian Listed and Showmetheway placing in the Umgeni Handicap Listed.

Checcetti partly owned and trained by maestro Mike De Kock, finished just one and a half lengths off the winner into fourth position in the Gr 2 Gold Bracelet under jockey Sean Veale at matching weights of 60kgs. The five-time winner very recently placed second by half a length at Scottsville in a Listed race over 1800m, while today she raced over 2000m.

Owned by Mr M Jooste, Distinguished, by Kahal out of Dignify by Rambo Dancer - the dam a half-sister to J&B Met winner Angus, flew to a one and half length victory over 1600m in the Darley Arabian Listed. Coming off a sixth draw and ridden by Karis Teetan, he beat Silvano's Silent Partner into second place.

The last race of the day, the Umngeni Handicap Listed, saw Muhtafal's consistent son Showmetheway finish third under jockey Keagan De Melo. The four year old gelding placed a very close second on the recent KZN Breeders Race Day to Panama Man. For a time in Scottsville and Turffontein, he had five wins in a row including beating Welwitschia(GB) by half a length. Owned by Mr Lin, Showmetheway is out of a Nashwan mare and trained by Mark Dixon.

In the main race today Seal finished just three lengths off winner Jeppe's Reef in the Gr 1 Gold Cup over 3200m, ridden by Bernard Fay'd Herbe and trained by Gavin Van Zyl. Recent Vodacom Durban July placed No Worries, by Kahal and also trained by Gavin Van Zyl, finished just three lengths off the winner in the Gr 1 Champions Cup today under jockey Weichong Marwing over 1800m.
