Bush Hill Stud-bred son of Curved Ball, Seerite, came close to downing Monks Hood in the Gr2 Dingaans on Sunday at Turffontein in a very impressive racing performance.
Seerite, a winner on debut and placed now from both of his other starts, came very close to emulating his sire Curved Ball’s win in the Gr2 Dingaans and almost caught Monks Hood on the line by a nose - another stride and the title would have been Seerite's own.
The three year old gelding at odds of 18/1 is out of Damascus Charmer by Damascus Gate owned by Mr K Wilson and trained by Robbie Sage. He challenged Monks Hood in a flying finish to miss it by a head.
Sporting Post are quoted as saying: "Finishing with a clear passage down the centre outside of the track, Monks Hood finished strongly to resist a dazzling late challenge from Seerite to clinch the honours by a head in a time of 99,10 secs. Seerite, a Bush Hill Stud-bred son of Curved Ball, came from stone last to go down narrowly – he looks an untapped talent and a horse to watch on this run!"
Curved Ball, a Gr2 Dingaans winner and the only son of Fastnet Rock at stud in South Africa, has had several horses impress recently including Wendy Whitehead's Hard To Play, On The Bounce and Bad Attitude. He is at almost 30% winners to runners on the recent national 3yo log.
Resident sires of Bush Hill Stud, including Toreador and Irish Flame, each had winners at Greyville yesterday with Filippo and Magic Flame respectively.
Congratulations to all concerned.
