Bush Hill Stud will be represented at the upcoming KZN Breeders Awards by The Mouseketeer, and another proud moment with Dr Ian Heyns' Seal - who was born and raised at our farm.
We are represented in two categories with The Mousketeer (by Kahal), and against Seal (also with two nominations) in the Outstanding Older Male category.
A winner of the last KZN Breeders 1600 at Clairwood in 2011, The Mouseketeer went on to win the Grade 3 August Stakes in his impressive debut on sand. The Mouseketeer followed up this form by taking home the Gr 2 Emerald Cup. Now a five year old, this gelding is trained by Sean Tarry and owned by Supersport personality Neil Andrews and Mr Diedrechsen. Now a six-time winner, he has placed four times. No stranger to awards, The Mouseketeer took home the Highveld Racing Award for Champion Sand Specialist at the end of May.
A R200 000 Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale Graduate of 2009, he has earned almost R1 million in stakes. The Mouseketeer is a half-brother to Lt Jerry Mouse, a five-time winner including the Listed East Cape Nursery.
The Mouseketeer's dam-line includes Jessamine, the dam of The Sheik and Al Nitak, and includes the likes of Shoe Express and Top Seller. Bush Hill Stud recently welcomed a full-brother to The Mousketeer last week.
Bush Hill Stud's resident sire Kahal
has seven of his progeny nominated - and it must be pointed out that the category of Outstanding Sprinter Female sees all three nominees by Kahal, bred by three different breeders.
Seal not only won the Gold Vase on Vodacom Durban July day but went on to place in the Ladbrokes' Gr 1 Gold Cup approximately a month later carrying top weight and coming off a very wide draw.
Seal adds the Wolf Power 1600 Listed Stakes in March this year to his victories, from Galanthus as well as placing fourth in the London News Stakes Gr 3 and the Drum Star Listed over 1800m.
In total, Seal is a five time winner (three of them Group/Listed wins) and placing 11 times (four of them Group/Listed) in total, as well as being nominated for an Equus Award earlier this year.
Seal's younger sibling by Miesque's Approval, named The Who and trained by Brett Webber, won his recent start at Turffontein by an incredible 7.5 lengths in very soft going over 2600m. Owned and bred by Dr Ian Heyns, it is the gelding's second win and he has placed seven times.
