Mr and Mrs Robert Muir's talented son of Cataloochee, the Bush Hill-bred King Neptune, took home the Michaelmas Listed Handicap over 1900m at Greyville on Friday evening.
The first racemeeting back at the illustrious Greyville turf track - which has been narrowed slightly - since having the changes for the new polytrack implemented.
The lightly raced five year old bay gelding is out of Plutonium by Muhtafal - Plutonium being a half-sister to Bush Hill's top performing siblings - both Gr 1 winners - the filly Zirconeum and gelding Stellite, both out of their brilliant broodmare Sweet Sheila. Zirconeum was later exported and placed in Dubai in the Gr 3 Balantine Stakes.
Plutonium has a yearling colt by Trippi destined for Nationals in April 2014 and she has foaled a filly by Kahal this year.
King Neptune is also a half-sister to Stella Mia, a four-time winning multiple stakes placed daughter of Labeeb who has produced a first foal by Kahal and has foaled a colt to King's Chapel this season.
Trained by Dennis Drier and ridden to victory by Keagen De Melo, King Neptune won in style from an eigth draw, by almost two and half lengths from Sage Throne (Dynasty), Gold Onyx (Black Minnaloushe) and Joshua's Crown (Joshua Dancer).
King Neptune has now had four wins from 16 starts, being out of the money only on two occasions. He has finished close seconds to the likes of Mujaarib(AUS) and Capetown Noir, Lehaaf(ARG) and Rock Cocktail(AUS).
Well done to all the winning connections!
